Emery Jr Eagles Vs Northview Juniors
The Emery Jr. Eagles hosted their home opening league basketball game against Northview.
The Eagles are coming off of an impressive tournament championship at the St. Marguerite d’youville tournament in Brampton. There, the Eagles beat several top ranked schools.
The Northview game is a rematch of last year’s north regional playoffs where Emery took the win on the road.
From tip off the Emery Eagles took control. With just 4 minutes into the game the Eagles started on a 13 to 4 run through tough defense and good outside shooting. Emery kept it up! By the end of the first quarter the score was 20-11.
Northview started the second quarter with a bang by making a run 3 minutes into the quarter cutting the lead to 22-16. At the half Emery was up 27-19 with the Eagles having full control over the tempo of the game.
Northview came out of the locker room strong bringing the lead down to 3 points with just a minute into the second half. The battle tested Eagles answered the Northview run with their own. They stretched the lead back to 8. By the end of the quarter the score was 40-33.
In the final quarter the Eagles with strong defensive play started to pull away from Northview. Halfway through the quarter the Eagles lead was up to 13 with Emery stepping up on defense and pushing the ball on offence. With 1:13 left in the game Northview cut the lead back to 6.The game was never in doubt with Emery taking the win 54-48.
Emery took the win with late game defensive intensity and the play of number 21 Jordan Holness. He had a monster game with 22 points 10 rebounds 6 steals and 5 assists.
The word in the Emery locker room after the win was rest. The team now is looking forward to the Mother Teresa School tournament.
