New Humber River Regional Hospital

By Tom Kear, Editor

The exterior of our new regional hospital is almost complete. Rising fifteen floors above the ground and spreading out between Wilson Ave and Hwy 401 the new Humber River Hospital will be known for its design emphasising the environment and digital technology.

On June 5th our MPP Mario Sergio invited HRRH’s CEO Reuben Devlin and COO Barbara Collins, the person who has lead the new hospital’s development to a community meeting at TPS 31 Division community room on Norfinch Dr.

When the new HRRH on Wilson Ave is opened, possibly in the Fall of 2015 the present Keele St. and Church St. sites will close. The Finch site however will remain open to serve the needs of the Jane/Finch Community. The services at the Finch Site mentioned are the following:

  • Special clinics for men's and women's health

  • Renal (kidney) Dialysis Unit

  •  Endoscopy Unit (internal observation for disease)

  • possibly an Ophthalmology (eye) Clinic

The new Wilson Hospital will have a mental health unit and there will be a mental health nurse  in the emergency department of the Finch site.

Wanda MacNevin, Director of community programs for the Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre asked Dr. Reuben Devlin to have resident community advisory councils for the different neighbourhoods of the catchment area. These councils would keep the leadership of the new hospital in touch with the people of the surrounding communities.Such advisory councils were active in the early years of the original York/Finch Hospital.
