 By Advocate Reporters Ama Twumwaa and Tom KearThe Jane and Finch mall and our local Police have combined to give students at Emery, Jeffreys and Westview financial awards. A new organisation in our community invited the mall and our local police to participate in these awards for students. The new organization is the Jane/Finch Athletics Club and is the brain-child of Ryan Marrast and Steve Morrision .Steve and Ryan both grew up in our community. Ryan is a graduate from Acadia University in Nova Scotia   and Steve recently graduated from University of Toronto. They both looking forward to careers in teaching and they both want to contribute something to the community they grew up in.Steve  and Ryan approached Karen Beaton , mall manager and O`Neil Johnson , marketing  director at Jane-Finch Mall, and also Superintendent David McLeod of the Toronto Police Service,31 Division for funds for the student bursaries. The alumni of C.W Jeffreys C.I also contributed to a student bursary. The police financial contribution was made through 31 Division`s Community Police Liaison committee of which Vivian Broersma is the Co-Chair.Students from Westwview CSS, Emery CI and C.W Jefferys CI who won $500 Bursaries on the awards night... Manvir Virdi, Derlene Phein, Devante Estick, Shivani Desai,Qasim Balas. Award Guest Speaker - Francis AttaOnce a youth himself in this community he has experianced the good, the bad and the many oppurtunities in this neighbourhood that many youth do not take advantage of . Growing up Mr Atta was not focused on school and was receiving some of the lowest marks in his class.On Wednesday June 13th, 2012, Mr Atta graduated from George Brown College in the Child and Youth Worker program, with one of the highest marks of this program.Francis has changed his life around and is trying to get others on the same path. He has started an organization called K.E.Y.S which stands for Knowledge&Effort Yielids Success which is a motivational speaking company.
