MOTHER’S SWEET HEART, 14, WINS YORKGATE IDOL

On Saturday July 14th 2012 the five finalists of many weeks of run off competitions gave outstanding performances of their musical talents to a large audience int he parking lot of Yorkgate Mall.
Maria Paraligan blew them away! She said, “Listen is a very powerful song which fills people with the emotion” Her voice was so strong and angelic and the audience loved her song… “Listen” by Beyonce a famous artiste who sings everything from hip pop to opera.
Maria has sung in school and church choirs and last year participated for the first time in the Yorkgate Idol event. This year her star shined. She became the Yorkgate Mall Idol.
The runners up were, 3rd Deanadrea who won $1, 000, and Amir 2nd who won $1,500. Maria the new Yorkgate Idol won $2,500. These generous prizes were provided by Cellular Point; a popular cell phone retailer who has sold cell phones to our community for a number of years.
Our Master of Ceremony Jay, who did a great job in keeping the program moving along, thanked Cellular Point and the other sponsors for their generous gifts.
Maria Paraligan the new Yorkgate Idol will begin studying this coming September at Cardinal Carter Academy of Arts in music. Miss Paraligan comes from a musical family. She told the Advocate, “My parents sing and there are a lot of singers in my family. I believe I gained the gift [of music] from their generation.”
