Mario Sergio's message to the residents of York West

Dear Friends,

York West and Queen’s Park has seen many exciting changes and developments in the first five months of 2013.  Ontario has a new premier, and I was honoured when Premier Kathleen O. Wynne appointed me as the Minister Responsible for Seniors, allowing me to continue to advocate for seniors across Ontario and for York West at the cabinet table. Recently at Queen’s Park, the 2013 provincial budget was introduced by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. Charles Sousa, alongside Premier Wynne. The Premier has made it a priority to listen to the people of Ontario and the budget, if passed, will bring sweeping social improvements that will have a positive effect for each resident of York West.  As you may know, I have always advocated for lower auto insurance rates for and I’m delighted that the Premier and the Minister of Finance listened to our concerns and are stabilizing the cost or auto insurance premiums by an average of 15 per cent while also requiring auto insurers to lower the rates for safe drivers if the budget is passed. Many constituents, particularly seniors, are happy to hear that the new budget will support 46,000 more people when they need home and community care and that the Action Plan for Seniors ensures that seniors and their caregivers have the access to the services they need when they need it.  The budget will also see and increase of the Ontario Child Benefit and gives the option of an annual lump sum payment of the Ontario Trillium benefit, addressing two concerns I hear from constituents that visit me at the constituency office. Exciting change continues in locally in York West as well, particularly in our many infrastructure projects that are creating jobs and making our community more accessible.  The subway expansion is progressing at lightning speed. Major construction is taking place as we build our second local Humber River Regional Hospital, which will be one of the most state-of-the-art hospitals in all of Ontario.
