More than $9 Million invested in our community's university
The Ontario provincial government has invested more than $9 Million in research projects at York University.
Mario Sergio, the Ontario minister responsible for seniors' affairs and MPP for York West announced the winning recipients on Jun. 11 at York University.
“York University is doing important research that has a real impact on people's lives in York West,” Sergio said. “I am proud of our government's role supporting this great work. I want to congratulatge all the well-deserving researchers receiving these competitive awards.”
The groups receiving funding are:
The Centre for Research in Earth and Space Science: Suborbital Payload Research Centre (SpaRC) led by Drs. Charles McElroy, Regina Lee and Sushanta Mitra, for developing new environmental monitoring and forecasting technologies.
Big Data Research, Analytics and Information Network (BRAIN) Alliance led by Dr. Nick Cercone, for research in data analytics, visualization and machine learning for Ontario industries.
Taking Space, Making Space: Digital Maps by Queers of Colour in Toronto, led by Dr. Jinthana Haritaworn for “using new mapping techniques to explore how queer and trans people of colour live, work and play in Ontario's capital city.”
Quantitative Methods and Infrastructure for Evidence-Based Decision-Support in Public Health, led by Dr. Seyed Moghadas for “Using the latest computational models to develop guidelines for informing and streamlining decision making processes during public health crises.

Neurocognitive Aging: Bridging the Gap Between Neuroscience and Neurointervention, led by Dr. William Stevens for “Developing more effective and successful treatments for an aging population by taking a multidisciplinary approach to better understand how aging affects our brains.”
